The Pearl ELM-T Tube Condenser Microphone is a true vacuum tube design built around the Pearl ELM capsule and powered by a custom made Andreas Grosser PSU. Pearl Microphones gave Bernt Malmqvist carte blanche to develop his own signature edition microphone and he has spent more than two years on the Pearl ELM-T Tube Condenser Microphone. The three prototypes have been sent to experienced engineers all over the world and have been tested for all sorts of music, including classical, latin, jazz and pop/rock. It sounds absolutely wonderful as a spot mic on string instruments. Malmö Opera used it as the spot mic for the solo violin when recording Vivaldi’s Four Seasons earlier this year, for instance. It is also a fantastic vocal microphone with a very warm and intimate sound. The noise level is very low for a true tube design – around 15 dBA – partly thanks to the large membrane and low noise of the ELM capsule.
